This paper analyzed the process by which Korean men of poor class today give up their dating relationship and marriage. It strives to examine the influences of
poverty experiences and their breadwinner identity on their masculinity. This problem named as ‘Sampo generation (abandonment of love, marriage, and childbirth)’ was a major discourse to analyze the recent declining birthrate of Korean society. However, the phrase ‘Sampo generation’ did not incorporate the phenomenon entirely. It did not take into account of the influences of economic power and gender on people’s dating relationship and marriage. Those men who were born as members of poor
families and are still victims of poverty, are the most vulnerable subjects to the problem of 'love and marriage'. Hereby, this paper tried to access the core substances of the problem of 'Sampo generation' by analyzing what these men have to say about ‘love and marriage’. At the same time, it aims to explore the possibility of tension and change of traditional gender hierarchy by analyzing their 'masculinity' and 'male's sense of crisis' 목차
